The Dualcomm ETAP-5203 is a failsafe Gigabit copper Network TAP capable of simultaneously monitoring two 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet links. Its low-power, fanless design makes it one of the few failsafe Gigabit Ethernet Network TAPs on the market that requires no cooling fan while offering several unique and advanced features.

The ETAP-5203 provides two copper inline link interfaces and two aggregation monitor ports. Each inline link interface consists of a pair of RJ45 ports.

The ETAP-5203 operates in one of two modes—Dual-TAP Mode or Dual-Link Mode—which are manually selected via a DIP switch. Power cycling is required when changing operating modes.

In Dual-TAP Mode, the ETAP-5203 functions as two independent Gigabit copper Network TAPs. Each monitor port outputs a copy of the aggregated full-duplex traffic from its corresponding copper inline link.

In Dual-Link Mode, each monitor port outputs a copy of the aggregated full-duplex traffic from both copper inline links.

An additional advantage of Dual-Link Mode is its support for monitor port stacking. Either monitor port can be used as a stacking port, allowing multiple ETAP-5203 units to be interconnected to monitor more than two network links while utilizing the remaining monitor ports for traffic monitoring.

The two RJ45 ports of each copper inline link interface automatically fail over to maintain link connectivity if the ETAP-5203 loses power. This failsafe feature makes the ETAP-5203 suitable for deployment in mission-critical network environments.

The ETAP-5203 also supports Link Fault Pass-Through (LFPT). When an active link on one RJ45 port of an inline link interface goes down, the link on the corresponding RJ45 port is automatically brought down as well. This behavior is desirable—and often required—in high-availability network deployments because it helps minimize the time required to activate a redundant network path.

The ETAP-5203 is fully compatible with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), allowing PoE inline power to pass transparently between the two RJ45 ports of each copper inline link interface. As a result, connected PoE-powered devices (for example, PoE IP phones) can continue to receive power from their PoE-capable link partners, such as PoE switches.

The ETAP-5203 can be rack-mounted using the optional mounting hardware kit (Model No. RMKIT-1000), which is sold separately.

The ETAP-5203E model is also available and supports either Dual-TAP Mode or Non-Aggregation Monitoring Mode. In Non-Aggregation Monitoring Mode, the ETAP-5203E provides a pair of non-aggregation monitor ports with additional two aggregation monitor ports. Use of the two non-aggregation monitor ports allow users to avoid monitor port oversubscription when bidirectional packet traffic is exceptionally high. The ETAP-5203E can also serve as a direct replacement for the ETAP-3105.
