Raspberry Pi Network TAP Appliance

Dualcomm ETAP-PI Raspberry Pi Network TAP Appliance is a compact and portable device that seamlessly integrates a Raspberry Pi 4 module with a gigabit Network TAP module. It is designed for remote monitoring or troubleshooting of network data traffic.

When installed as an inline device between two network nodes, the ETAP-PI captures bi-directional traffic between the two network nodes and transmits the captured data to the Raspberry Pi module for processing by network monitoring or analysis software. Simultaneously, the Raspberry Pi module can be accessed remotely via the two inline network ports A and B over the network or the Internet.

Additionally, the ETAP-PI offers an external monitor port, delivering a copy of the captured inline traffic from the two inline network ports A and B. This feature enables the ETAP-PI to function as a standalone 10/100/1000 gigabit Network TAP.

The inline network ports A or B also serve the purpose of configuring or installing software on the "headless" Raspberry Pi module. For graceful shutdown, ETAP-PI incorporates a pushbutton and LED indicator, preventing potential data or file corruption on the Raspberry Pi Module's SD Micro Card when unplugging the DC input power.

A second pushbutton and two bi-color LED indicators are implemented as a user-defined interface that can be defined and programmed by software.

ETAP-PI is also implemented with a temperature-controlled cooling fan. The cooling fan will be activated when the temperature of the Raspberry Pi module reaches a user-defined temperature level (65°C is the default temperature threshold).

The pushbuttons, the three LEDs, and the cooling fan are all wired to a selected set of GPIO pins on the Raspberry Pi module.  

ETAP-PI also supports dual DC power inputs, enhancing overall system availability.
